Thousands Experiencing Power in South-East Queensland and Victorian Regions Following Severe Storms

Approximately 25,000 residences in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday's dawn after powerful weather events passed over the state, generating powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Damage

Homeowners observed large ice chunks as large as seven centimeters in some areas. Weather authorities verified that various areas across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Emergency crews were working to restore energy supply throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews deployed to manage the numerous electricity disruptions.

State Emergency Services received 598 calls for help across the state, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along much of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with persistent thunderstorm potential predicted across multiple regions of both areas.
