Just as bad weather tore through the northern region the night before, Manchester City swept Manchester United away at the their home ground. It was a statement three-nil triumph for the City coach's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that truly announced their title credentials as they consolidated their position at the WSL pinnacle.

Successive Defeats for United

This outcome marked consecutive Women's Super League defeats for the United manager's side for the first time since May 2024, putting them a significant margin off the league leaders with their championship aspirations in serious doubt.

The Red Devils' ability to manage league and continental soccer with a limited squad has been a widely debated subject since they secured entry to the Champions League. Looking at the schedule, it always appeared this was the week that would seriously challenge this capability.
